Coach: Drew Edmondson
Coach Edmondson grew up in Falls Church, VA. He attended Bishop O’Connell High School where he served as a manager for the Boys Freshmen team during 2001-02 and 02-03. He then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. During his four years at Missouri, Coach Edmondson earned a degree in History and African-American Studies. He now lives in Arlington and teaches World History and Government at Bishop O’Connell.
Coach Edmondson began coaching at the age of 14 as an assistant coach for a 10u Braddock Road Boys and Girls League recreational team. For the next 2 years he served as an assistant coach for the Annandale Boys and Girls Club 11u and 12u County League team. The 12u won the regular season division championship. In 2002-03 Coach Edmondson served as the Head Coach of the 13u Division 2 Annandale Boys and Girls County league team.
After moving to Columbia, MO Coach Edmondson coached 5th and 6th Grade recreational basketball from 2003 to 2006. In the summers of 2004 and 2005, Coach Edmondson returned home to coach the Bailey’s Community Center 15u and 13u boys’ teams.
In 2006 he began coaching the 11u Rising Stars Sports Association Travel team and continued through 2007 coaching the 12u team. While in College Coach Edmondson also served as a Board Member of Columbia Youth Basketball Association and was the 7th grade league coordinator in 2007. He also was the Secretary of Rising Stars Sports Association from September 2006 to August 2007.
After returning to Northern Virginia Coach Edmondson became the Assistant Junior Varsity Girls coach for the Bishop O’Connell Girls. For the past two seasons Coach Edmondson has served as an Assistant coach for the O’Connell Girls Varsity team.
Coach Edmondson is ready to add to his coaching philosophy any time he is in the gym. He has picked ideas up from 5th Grade recreational coaches, Hall of Fame level coaches like Jerry Tarkanian and Bob Huggins and anybody in between. He credits O’Connell Coach Jimmy Brown as being his biggest and best coaching influence, and believes Coach Brown is the most underrated coach in the DC area. Coach Edmondson believes in adopting the best style of play for his personnel. Player development is by far Coach Edmondson’s #1 priority in Youth Basketball.

The Fairfax Stars 11U team traveled to Philadelphia for three games during the weekend of May 22 - 23. In the first game they showed great poise down the stretch to beat the York Thunder 35-30. Next, the Stars used intense defense to pull ahead of the Columbia Ravens 20-1 at halftime and win convincingly. In their final game of the day the Stars displayed tremendous hustle and tenacious defense to edge out a very good South Jersey Tar Heels team. _______________________________________________________________
Despite a week of being ravaged by injury and illness the 11U stars still had a solid opening weekend in the District Tournament. The Stars lost tough games to two very good teams in the Cardinals and Alana Beard Future Stars. However on Saturday night the Stars turned up the defensive intensity and forced a plethora of turnovers to beat the Maryland Lady Sparks 52 to 30. _______________________________________________________________
The Fairfax Stars took 2nd place in the Charm City Tournament in Baltimore. In pool play the Stars convincingly beat the Maryland Grizzlies, then won an exciting game against the Cardinals. In bracket play the Stars once again beat the Grizzlies before loosing to the Cardinals in a hard fought championship game.

The 11U Stars opened up the season at the Team Sol "One Day Run" in District Heights Maryland. Despite having only five players, the stars beat a very talented Cardinal team 41 to 28. The Stars then lost a tough game to a very good Team Sol team. In their third game of the day, playing with only six players, the Stars posted an impressive win over the Wildcats 43 to 24. It was a great start to the season!!
