On July 29, 2018, the USA Basketball U17 Women’s National Team completed an undefeated run ( 7 – 0 ) in Minsk, Belarus to capture the 2018 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup Championship. Two players from the Fairfax Stars U17 Girls Nike EYBL Team were members of the team that brought home the Gold Medal for Team USA, Azzi Fudd and Sam Brunelle. We are so proud of these incredibly talented young student-athletes and their teammates as the dominated the competition from start to finish. Both Azzi & Sam are now 2X Gold Medal champions with Team USA as last summer they were on the U16 Team that captured the championship of the 2017 FIBA America’s U16 Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This year more than 150 candidates from across the United States participated in the tryouts at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in June. 12 players were selected to represent Team USA at the FIBA U17 World Cup Championship. We are so proud of Azzi & Sam for earning the opportunity to represent their country, and then bringing home the Gold!! Congrats to both of these talented young players who continue to strive for excellence…both on and off the court!
The Fairfax Stars organization is proud to be recognized as one of the premier AAU basketball programs in America and incredibly proud of all of the student-athletes that participate. The success of any season is not determined by wins and losses, rather by the improvement of the players in their skills, self-confidence, knowledge, and love for the game of basketball.
