Meet Coach Varner! 

Coach Lavar has 15 years of experience coaching youth football and basketball at various levels for both girls and boys programs.  He is a native of Fairfax County, where he played both football and basketball.  His first stint with the Fairfax Stars about 20 years ago was an assistant  coach  to  his  father’s  13uU Boys team.   For the  last 6 years, Coach Lavar has been coaching  5th through 7th grade boys and girls travel basketball in the Fairfax County League.

Coach Lavar’s coaching philosophy is control what you can control, and we will develop the rest.  He focuses on teaching his players spacing, cutting, and ball movement versus an offensive system.  He likes for his teams to play an up-tempo style,  and 94 feet of man to man defense.

His goals for the upcoming season are to continue to develop his player’s basketball IQ, footwork, and teaching them more advance team concepts.
